Cambridge 2009

28th August

Eeey! Just got back. Me and my friend, Abi, we just got back from our weekend in Cambridge. It was great, before we checked in, we had breakfast at this other hotel, and get this - they undercharged us!

So we booked in, the hotel was nice, fancy! And then we went to a fair that was going on. Bouncy castles, yay! We of course went punting on the river, with our guide Emily, (going to OXFORD, can you believe it?).

So then the next day we went bike-riding, that was also cool.

The day after that, we went to the market. I bought a Cambridge hoodie. Now everyone thinks I'm smart whenever I wear it.
I also bought salt and pepper shakers that look like a black and white person hugging. (I mean black and white literally, not racially). For my friend's birthday.
She loved it, I'm pleased to say. Turns out she had wanted it for ages. *SCORE!*

Am I the best friend or what?
August 7th

So we were picked up at Windsor to go to Milton Keynes Leisure centre. It was great, it was real snow, inside!

We got kitted up, Emily (who I hadn't seen in years) lent me some gloves, which was nice of her. We put our boots on, which we could hardly walk in, though I managed okay.

We were split into two groups. And I got two instructors: one who looked like the lead singer in Maroon 5 (I think it was the eyebrows)
and one called Jonathan, who was quite handsome really. So we did our first snowboarding, I'd never done it before, and we'd each go down with the instructor, one by one, and I always got Jonathan, which was a bit annoying cause he was really mean! He'd deliberately let go of me whenever I was falling and that kinda stuff.

Well, he ended up making me his protoge(acute accent), probably because I was so bad at everything. Well, I eventually got the hang of it, thanks to his bullying, and then we did some random excersize, like how you'd waltz, but down a hill...on a snowboard. Quite romantic really. Ehehe...ehehehe.....ehe.

And then we learnt to snowboard backwards.

Ooh but once, I was going on my own, and I accidentally flipped to sideways, which was the fastest position you could go, and this was a really short but steep slope. I was about to crash into the wall, and they didn't teach us how to stop, so I ended up having to throw myself over, creating this huge wall of snow, it was great!

Und Dann... we had finished, and we went to give back the stuff we'd rented out, and then...Jonathan...he took his helmet off...
Oh my gosh...It was like, bald at the top, and the rest was just all...stubble...ew...
And my friend, Mullings-Wong turned to me, and said, "He looked much better with his helmet on."

I agreed.

Then we went round to Bryony's house, where I saw Chrissy for the first time in, 5 years. Wearing an Invader Zim hoodie too, which was cool, I thought I was the only one who watched it.

We were listening to some jrock, and drawing, and Mwa and I were looking through some Neo magazines, we found some really cool stuff, like this shop called candybox, a huge shop that sells purely candy. Then I drew something, which everyone graffitied. Though in th end I decided to keep it in. Here it is:
See?
Where's Gary Nutall?

I went upstairs to work on some tracks on the music studio, only to find out it had disappeared. How annoying is that? Danjo obviously took it back home with him, which is a shame.

My friend came over, this morning, and we made some noodles with pesto sauce, after which I *eventually* got Charlotte to try some Welches Purple Grape juice. After which we went round to the corner shop to get some tictacs. Funny on the way we saw my Dad coming home, in his brand new Honda S2000. He only had his previous car for a year.

We went home and started making some Apple pastry nests. Those were nice. After which we played my Dad in a badminton match. I won.

Later I went to a pub in Ascot to watch the open mic night my Mum's friend was playing at. We were also going to see Robbie Williams' guitarist Gary Nutall and the son of Lemmy from Motorhead. So I was sat there for hours with my orange juice (ther wouldn't sell me any alcohol) listening to Len's old Rockn'Roll band. They were really good, just not my genre.

So Gary Nutall never came, something like he needed to change out of his pyjamas, and neither did 'Son of Motorhead' so that was completely fruitless.

Much love,
bbeatscheese

Apple Pastry Nests

My friend was over today, and as usual, we just HAD to bake something. Today, we made Apple pastry cakes, which is really good to make if you want to cut down on sugar, but still have a sweet tooth. This recipe is for 12 nests. You will need:

4 green cooking apples

lemon juice

Caster sugar

8oz flour

4oz butter

2 tablespoons water

Pastry cutters (Anything round will do.)

Muffin tin

To make pastry:

*Note* If you like, you can just buy frozen pastry, however, if you want to make it from scratch:

1. Rub in flour and butter between thumb and fingers.

2. Add 2 tablespoons of water, more if needed.

3. Roll out onto a floured surface.

4. Cut out pastry and shape to a greased muffin tin.
5. Begin to peel and core the apples. We picked ours directly from the apple tree in our garden.

. 6. Slice the apples into thin, small pieces and put them in a large mixing bowl with lemon juice to stop the apples from turning brown, and a sprinkle of sugar. Add as much sugar as you like depending on how sweet you want it to be. Charlotte and I, having quite a sweet tooth, put rather a lot in, giving everyone diabetes.

7. Spoon the apples into the pastry cases. If you want, you could even sprinkle a bit of sugar on top.

Here is the finished product. Enjoy!

Exam Results day!

So today is quite a contrast from yesterday, where I just sat on my computer listening to either really depressing or really weird songs like In the Hot Hot Rays by Fleet Foxes or Apres Moi by Regina Spektor. I love that woman. I listen to her songs which have that really weird Russian feel to it, and feel like I've just been dipped by my ankle into the river of Brilliance.

However, I digress. My phone's been ringing off the hook with my mother's students calling to say, "I got an A in my Biology!" or something. She's realy happy, all of those who were U students before they came to her are now coming back with an A. It's crazy. Alex, my brother got in to City of London University, he almost got into UCL but he needed all As and he got one B.

So now she's decided to celebrate, she phoned her good friend Pat. She always speaks so loudly when talking to friends or relatives. I heard her conversation in the next room, a conversation which normally starts out as,
"Hey! Heeeeeeeeey! Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey (her reverting to her Nigerian accent when talking to relatives) !"
So she wants to take me to the Perseverance (our local pub) to celebrate, where Pat's husband's band is playing. The George used to be Wraysbury's local, but the new landlord doesn't know how to run it, so it's all gone a bit downhill. He's tried to revive it by putting curry on the menu, but come on, curry? I love the stuff but...it's just not working. Shame really.

Now that exam's are over, Mother now has one more obstacle to overcome...

THE BIRDS!!!
Yes, that's true African eccentricity for you. The pigeons keep flying over our swimmig pool, thinkng it's one giant birdbath, and leaving their mark of appreciation in the form of feathers and feces. Mother's gone crazy now, she even bought a starter's pistol to scare them away...But she's impulsive like that. For example, yesterday she asked me if I wanted a badminton kit. I told her sure, why not? She promptly went out of the door, drove to Argos and bloody bought one! It's really useful, especially when I wanted a new sewing machine. I didn't even ask for one. SHE OFFERED!

So now I am once again glued to my laptop, writing, listening to Gogol Bordello. I don't care how many of my friends say they suck. They are AMAZING! Infact, it would be racist to say otherwise. *jokes*

So long, let them eat cake etc.
Bbeatscheese
"HEART ATTACK WAITING TO HAPPEN" Malteser Cake.

I was making a malteser cake yesterday. Here's the recipe:

You will need:
6 oz./75grams butter/ margerine

6oz./75grams caster sugar

6oz./75grams self-raising flour

3 eggs

Chocolate

Golden syrup

Maltesers

Marshmallows (optional)

Oreos (optional)

1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees.

2.Cream butter and sugar until fluffy and white. People will often ask why caster sugar makes a difference, after all, it's only sugar. However, using caster sugar helps to get a lighter and fluffier cake mixture.

3. Beat eggs is a separate bowl. gradually add the beaten eggs into the mix.

4. Fold in the flour using a tablespoon. The mixture should look like this:

5. pour the mixture into a greased cake tin. Cook for about 20 minutes. The cake is ready to come out when it is a golden brown colour. If you are unsure whether it is cooked on the inside, insert a toothpick into the cake. If there is still mixture on the toothpick, then it needs to be cooked for a little more. I'd check every five minutes though, incase it overcooks.

6. Right, now time for the special topping. Put as much chocolate as you like into a pot and put it on very low heat. It has to be an extremely gentle heat, otherwise the chocolate will simply burn and not melt.

7. Now add just under a tablespoonful of golden syrup. This adds to the viscosity of the chocolate, and also because of it the chocolate will never properly harden.

 8. Now add 1 packet of maltesers. Stir well.

9. Time to add the marshmallows. Add as many as you like of these, it's all down to personal preference. I warn you however, that the marshmallows too melt under the heat, and become very sticky and difficult to stir if you add too much. Plus, You won't be able to coat the cake properly if there is just too much marshmallow. Though I must admit, I'm quite interested to see what a marshmallow cake would be like. Maybe I'll experiment with that later...

10. Now if you really want to stir things up, add an oreo or two. I added one and a half, because my oreo snapped in half as it was coming out of the packet.
